Seafood Technology Division
Who are we? The Seafood Technology Division of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) encompasses all aspects of the science and technology of aquatic food products, including harvesting, production, preparation, marketing, processing, utilization and nutrition. The Seafood Technology Division (STD) was established in 1981 and now has more than 450 members from industry, government, and academia worldwide. Iceland and Ezo Awabi appears also to be on a firm ground in the country, plans call for a commercial scale production of both species soon to be initiated.
What are Our Objectives? The STD objectives of the Division are to:

Encourage and facilitate interaction, communication and understanding among IFT members in industry, government, and academia
Foster programs, symposia, discussion groups, training sessions, and special presentations concerning the science and technology of aquatic foods. (STD has the responsibility to evaluate the abstracts and symposia submitted for presentation at the annual IFT meeting in the area of aquatic foods products.)
Stimulate and assist pertinent research and development in the area of aquatic food technology.
Support, encourage and mentor undergraduate and graduate students interested in aquatic food technology.
How Can You Participate? Members can participate in STD activities by:

Serving as an elected member of the executive committee.

Serving as a volunteer chair or member of STD committees.

Submitting materials and information for publication in the newsletter.

Organizing symposia and workshops.

Mentoring students interested in aquatic foods.

Interacting with other IFT members via the STD Internet discussion group.
How Can You Join? Membership in the Institute of Food Technologists Seafood Technology Division is open to all IFT members.
